Evergreen tree 5-7m high. Dark green or bright yellowish leaves. Abundant and fragrant intense yellowish-green blossom. As fruit it has reddish-yellow, pear-shaped nuts with a characteristic scar. They contain the seed, which is used as a nut.

Medicinal properties are attributed to the bark and leaves, such as curing dysentery, infections and healing wounds. Its fruit is also highly valued by the chemical industry and in the creation of medicines.

It adapts to all types of soil, preferring loamy, deep, sandy and well-drained soils.
