Abyssinian banana or False banana is a tropical plant of ornamental use due to its spectacular leaves.
Indoor as well as outdoor plant in warm and humid climates.
It can reach 3-4 metres in height with very large, deep green leaves with purplish-red margins, veins, undersides and trunk.
It does not produce fruit. In its native countries the edible root is often used for food and fibre production.
