Ornamental, culinary and medicinal shrub. Perfect for rockery. It grows on stony faces and on walls. Capers are preserved in salt and vinegar and used to dress salads, pasta, pizza, fish etc… They are diuretic, purgative and they are used in vasoconstriction problems. They have been used in comestics to strengthen hair.
A thorny shrub with an evergreen foliage growing up to 1m of a height. The leaves are egg-shaped and green. The flowers are big, white with pinky spots. Its well-known fruit is the caper.
It prefers arid, stony and limestone soils such as quarry soils or saline soils under mediterranean climates.
