Multipurpose sage! Perfect as an ornamental plant for its striking flowers, as well as for culinary use due to its edible leaves and flowers. It can be grown on edges, rockeries and for low hedges.
Evergreen shrub of 1.20-1.50m. Clusters of intense red flowers in a tubular shape and oval and velvety greenish yellow leaves, both very aromatic with a smell similar to pineapple. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
The dried leaves are used to flavour or decorate dishes. From its flowers preserves, jam and marmalade can be made. The essential oil is used to make cosmetics and toothpaste. It is stimulating and digestive. It cures respiratory and digestive diseases and headaches.
Dig a hole that is at least twice as wide and deep as the plant's root ball. Crumble and stir the soil effectively: this will facilitate rooting. Take the plant out of the container and carefully cut off any roots that may have broken off by slightly loosening the root ball. Mix the removed soil with substrate and fill part of the hole with this mixture. Place the plant in the hole, cover it with the rest of the mixture and compact the soil around the root ball, treading carefully on it. Water abundantly.
