SEEDS OF WILD SERVICE TREE - SORBUS TORMINALIS

Ornamental and forest tree to be grown as an isolated tree and in hedges. Its wood is used to make instruments and tool handles too and it is a very good firewood.

FRM. Source Identified.

Deciduous tree up to 25m tall with a pyramid-shaped crown and white flowers. Oval and heart-shaped leaves. Edible red-brownish fruit.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April. Stratify in cold the seeds for 3-4 months before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.

It prefers fresh soils refusing moist or very dry soils. It is found in the clearings and at the edge of woods.
