SEEDS OF DOUGLAS FIR - PSEUDOTSUGA MENZIESII

The Douglas Fir is a conifer used in reforestation. It can be grown as a singular tree in a garden. Excellent Christmas tree. It is one of the most important timber trees, with multiple applications in carpentry, joinery, paper pulp and as structural wood for the construction of beams, railway sleepers, floorboards, mine posts, etc.

F.R.M., Qualified Orchard. France, PME VG06 Californie

This tree can reach 100m of a height. The pine cones are ovoid and conic. They are dark-brown and very elegant. The acicules release a strong smell of lemon or mandarin when crushed.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April. To obtain a more regular and faster germination pre-chill the seeds for 21 days before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
