Conifer up to 20m tall with fine perennial yellow-green needle-like leaves. Rounded or irregular canopy. Elongated and small brown cones that contain the seeds. It prefers neutral, basic and dry soils. It adapts to very poor and skeletal soils, preferring those of limestone origin. Very resistant to drought, thermophilic and sensitive to frost. Fast growing.
