PLANTS OF CRAB APPLE - MALUS COMMUNIS

Fruit tree and ornamental from which apple is obtained. It is edible and has medicinal properties. Rootstock for different hybrids. The apple can be eaten raw, cooked, accompanying different dishes as an ingredient, being a a source of vitamins. It is diuretic, cleans teeth and helps sleep. Its wood is appreciated in carpentry and joinery.

Deciduous tree up to 10m. Produces the wild apple, a green-yellowish-reddish and sour apple. Green oval leaves, white flowers.

Prefers humid, siliceous soils slightly humid.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
