SEEDS OF NOBLE FIR - ABIES PROCERA

Very large Fir tree used for timber. It is also essential for the Festivity of Nativity as an ornamental tree.

Evergreen tree up to 40-70 m high and 2 m trunk diametre. The bark is grey and thick. Bright blue-green needles. Male cones on the lowest and youngest branches. Female cones between 5-20 cm long are on the strongest branches. First they are yellow and then turn to purple at maturity.

The ideal soil is deep and fresh with rot organic matter. This tree grows between 900-1,700 m. altitude.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 21 days before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
