A very specific ornamental flower because it seems to be constantly covered by frost. It is used in gourmet cuisine. In cooking the leaves are used like spinach leaves or raw in salads. Also to decorate dishes. Due to its salt accumulation the plant can be useful for bio-remediation mainly in disturbed and saline areas.
Evergreen prostrate succulent of about 30cm. The leaves are covered by large bladder cells that make them look frosty or icy. They contain water and are edible. The colour of the flowers goes from white to rose. The flowers open in the morning and close at night, and are insect pollinated.
