PLANTS OF PURPLE PASSION FRUIT - PASSIFLORA EDULIS

Vigorous climber with beautiful flowers followed by edible fruits known as Passion fruit, Granadilla.

Flowers self-pollinate and produce edible green fruit turning purple when ripe. The passion fruit is rich in A and C vitamins. It can be eaten raw as a fruit but also in juices and beverages, ice-creams, sorbets and jellys. Herbal tea is made from its flower and leaves. It calms anxiety and stress

Woody, perennial vine up to 10m. Evergreen, lobbed and serrated leaves. Fragrant white and violet flowers. The passion fruit is round to oval, yellow or dark purple at maturity, with a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. 

It grows on loamy soils from neutral to acid, slightly humid.
